Charit Creek Lodge, Tennessee
October 2005

Elaine, Sierra, Cooper and I had an excellent weekend joining, Mike, Teri, Henry, Richard, Terry, and Ruby at the Charit Creek lodge. The lodge is located in Picket State Park near the Big South Fork Recreation Area in Tennessee, and is about a mile hike from the trail head. We all shared a rustic cabin that used oil lanterns for light, a wood burning stove for heat, and had three double bunk beds. The lodge staff prepared breakfast lunch and dinner for us and the other guests, which was wonderful. There was a creek to play in (obviously - Charit Creek lodge), a soccer ball to kick, and horse shoes - footballs - and Frisbees to throw on the lodge grounds. There were also hikes in every direction that ranged from overlooks of the valley, to waterfalls, to sandstone arches. On Saturday, we chose the arches, as it was a short hike which is right up the kids' alley. It was great to spend time with other families with children the same age as ours; it reinforced the thought that Sierra and Cooper are not the only kids who have an occasional melt down. |
