Sierra and I made a quick four day trip down to Mexico for some beach time. I wanted to take advantage of a four day weekend she had from school, and Sierra thought it would be fun to play on a beach (Elaine and Cooper chose to stay home and have a relaxing weekend with Grandma Carol). After flying into Cancun (Delta has one direct flight from Cincinnati a week, which was nice), renting a tiny car and driving a couple of hours South to the paradise of Tulum, we checked into a beachside cabina for a couple of nights to chill out. Sierra loved playing on the beach and in the bath-like waters of the Caribbean, as well as shopping for trinkets in town. Unfortunately the morning we had hoped to visit the Mayan ruins of Tulum, the sky started dumping copious amounts of rain (as this is the rainy season, we had sporadic thunderstorms pass over, but they certainly didn't curb our enthusiasm!). We decided to drive up the coast to the resort town of Playa del Carmen, where we had a nice sunny afternoon on the beach and evening poking around the pedestrian shopping district before waking up at the crack of dawn to fly back home. Sierra did great with all of the transitions (travel, language, cultural) and we can't wait to do another whirlwind trip like this again! |
