Washington D.C.
November 2007 (Taking advantage of Sierra's election weekend school break)

We had a really good time in Washington DC. It was nice to visit a place so close (only an hour flight), making it possible to see and do more. The area has so much to offer, much of it free - which is right up our alley. We will definitely be making more trips to visit in the future. Day 1 After landing, and checking into the hotel, we gave Sierra and Cooper sight seeing options, and they were most excited about the zoo - so that's were we went. After closing the place down, we had dinner at a great Greek restaurant between the zoo and Metro station. Over dinner we asked the kids about their experiences. Sierra said her favorite animal was the Giant Panda, Cooper said that his was the Hippo (both of which we do not have at the Cincinnati Zoo). Cooper said that his favorite part of the day wasn't the zoo, but the Metro ride(s), go figure. Day 2 The weather was perfect for being outside, so we did a lot of walking (5 + miles). Sierra and Cooper got a kick out of "Space Station 3D" showing at the Air and Space Museum, as well as the observation deck of the Washington Monument and the reflecting pool between the Washington Monument and Lincoln Monument. Sierra really liked the idea of standing at the same spot that Martin Luther King Jr. stood while giving his "I have a dream" speech. Day 3 The Natural history Museum was a huge hit followed by a White House tour. Unfortunately camera's were not allowed in the White House, so we were unable to (photo) document the experience. The Natural History Museum was such a big hit in the morning that we decided to visit again in the afternoon, before finally heading to the airport and back to Kentucky. |
